Editorial policy
How we report, check, correct, and keep our independence.
A draft awaiting the publisher's approval. It describes how the site works today; the approved text replaces it.
Sources
Every story says where its facts came from. News stories end with their sources. Guides and destinations name the official documents they were checked against, and the date we checked.
DNR dates and rules
We never state a season date, a limit or a regulation without the DNR source beside it. Every notice we publish links to the DNR document it summarizes. Our plain-English version is a summary; the DNR document is the rule. Always confirm for your unit before you go.
Corrections and updates
We correct errors at the top of the story, with the date, and list every correction on the corrections page. When a news story changes after it is published, the change goes in its update history and the newest change shows at the top of the story.
Reviews
We test gear in the field and say for how long, in what conditions, and how we got it: bought at retail, loaned and returned, or loaned and kept, which we disclose. We give no star scores. Affiliate links are labeled, and a commission never decides a verdict.
Photographs
A photograph shows what its caption says it shows. A generated image never stands in for a real place, a real person or a tested product. We record the credit and the license of every image we publish.
Independence
Partners fund our work. They never write, review or approve our journalism. Paid content is labeled as paid, and our partnership standards say how. No story is shared to social media automatically: a person approves every post.
Tips, corrections and letters
Send them through the contact page. Tips go to the desk; corrections go to the editor who checks them.
